Origami Quetzal
Video Tutorial
Scroll down for diagrams
This model was designed by request of one of my Facebook followers, who is from Guatemala. The quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala. I recommend using tissue paper or foil-backed paper size 50cm x 50cm. The model becomes quite thick in places when folded so it is best to use this size of paper to avoid tearing. The video below shows how to make a quetzal with two extra tail feathers.

I have also made a box diagram that will have sides of the same thickness when complete. The measurements, as before, are up to you.
I have used card but for a stronger box you could use cardboard. There are many different materials that can be used for the covers: wrapping paper, origami paper, tissue paper, handmade paper, kitchen towels (some have very nice patterns)…I have provided the basics, the rest is up to your imagination.

Calculating your own size box
Below I have shown how to create your own custom box. If you will use a computer program to create your template there are sites with conversion from cm to pixels so that your printed template will be the size you want. My calculations are based on thin card. The thicker the card that you will be using, the larger the lid will need to be in comparison with the base.I have also made a box diagram that will have sides of the same thickness when complete. The measurements, as before, are up to you.
